I though this was happening to me because of the upgrade to 1.18.1, but it actually happened because upgrading to High Sierra somehow made git non-runnable from the command line. I was getting a xcrun: error: invalid active developer path (/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools), missing xcrun at: /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/bin/xcrun when trying to run git from the command line. If you're on a mac and just upgraded to High Sierra, you can fix simply by running xcode-select -install. Then just restart vscode, and you're good to go.
